What’s on HDTV?
In recent years British householders have been able to benefit from developments in television technology and high definition channels are now widely available.
Digital television is a fairly recent development but the future of British television lies in the arms of digital technology and by 2012 analogue will be phased out due to the digital crossover. It’s important to realise that HDTV and digital television are not the same thing. To view digital television you simply need a digital television (as opposed to an analogue tv) and while high definition television might provide a better picture, it is not necessary to view digital tv.
High Definition (HD) television offers a much higher quality of picture and sound. Colours are more vibrant, details are more intricate and the picture is crisper.
A standard UK television image is made up of 576 lines of pixels whereas a high-definition television screen uses either 720 or 1080 lines, meaning all round better quality for you.
The choice of channels offered by digital and high definition television is better as well. Terrestrial television does offer a degree of variety but several million British households have now opted to additionally opt for Digital Satellite Television (DSAT). This service was launched in Britain in October 1998 and has proved a popular choice for a wide spectrum of British residents due to the diverse channels on offer.
One of the main benefits of digital and a key reason why it is so widely used throughout Britain is down to the increased choice of channels to choose from. There are hundreds of channels covering almost every imaginable genre. From news to education and sports to popular music, digital and high definition television caters for every taste of kids and adults alike.
If you are passionate about all things melodic then you will be thrilled by the music channels on offer. Whether you like pop, rock or dance music, there is a channel to suit all tastes. Video chart shows, live performances and interviews with the artists keep you up to date with the most recent musical happenings from around the world.
For sports fans there are several channels which cover every event from grand slam tennis to European golf tours and everything in between.
If fact-based entertainment is more your thing then channels such as National Geographic, the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet will satisfy your inner desire to learn more about the world and its people.
If keeping up-to-date with the latest news is important then you won’t be disappointed as there are several round the clock news channels from across the globe so you can stay informed of both local and international issues.
Style and culture channels are perfect for budding fashionistas and cover a wide range of subject areas from fashion and food to home and health.
Movie lovers can enjoy their favourite flicks in even greater details thanks to high definition technology and even the little ones can benefit from the children’s HD Channels that help to educate and entertain.
