The World’s Most Expensive Mobiles

You’d think that being in a recession would put some people off, but there’s still a fairly sizeable market when it comes to the best of the best. That includes mobile phones, some of them have price tags on them that mean if you thought the iPhone was expensive, you better think again.

The price of some mobile phones ranges from the expensive to the obscene, with some handsets clocking in at five figures – for example, the Motorola V220 Special Edition, which is known to retail at around £28,000. For 1200 diamond studs and a keyboard made from gold, it’s worth it, right?

Of course, that’s before we even take into account the possible figures coming from Nokia’s Vertu range, a series of high end mobile phones for the consumer that loves to flash their cash. The Vertu Signature Cobra phone, a strange looking device with diamonds, emeralds and rubies laid into the shape of a cobra that hugs the handset, retails at £167,567. There’s only eight in the world, making this device a real must have.

As if the Cobra wasn’t bad enough, the Goldvish Le million just manages to not live up to its name, but it makes a decent attempt. Officially the most expensive mobile phone in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records, the Goldvish requires the kingly sum of £540,540 before eager mobile enthusiasts can get their mitts on it – but be careful, this one off phone features 120 carats worth of striking WS-1 grade diamonds and could end up being far more eye catching than its users.

After that, the £25,950 Gresso Luxury Phone may seem like a walk in the park and the Samsung’s Bang & Olufsen Serene, which retails at around £675, practically laughable. The iPhone certainly doesn’t stand a chance when it comes to being considered costly when placed up against these contenders.

It’d take a lot of bravery and a bottomless wallet to commit to one of these mobile phones – or one of the plenty other luxury handsets out there – but you might be left wondering what exactly the new owners are going to do to help cut back on costs following their purchase. It is a recession, after all.

Perhaps they’ll have to ensure they don’t overspend on their new mobile by getting pay as you go phones and giving themselves a strict budget. Or an iPhone!
