Top Rated Attractions In Barcelona
Barcelona, situated high up on the eastern coast of Spain, has a distinct benefit which makes it irresistible to the countless tourists that visit it every single year.
It has managed to seamlessly join together both ancient and modern locations, sights and influences, providing a unique and much loved city that entices many people back for a second or third viewing.
So what can you expect when you pay a visit to the city yourself?
Some locations are definitely magnets for both tourists and locals, and one of these is undoubtedly the Parc Guell. This is quite unlike any other park you will ever have visited, and once you enter it you will feel compelled to discover all that it has to offer.
Many of the carefully built structures, pathways and terraces are covered in tiles, creating colourful mosaic sculptures and designs. Perhaps the most famous sight of all is known as the Gaudi dragon. Created by Antoni Gaudi, it welcomes you at the entrance, and leads you into one of the most unusual parks in the world.
If you hire a car during your stay in Barcelona, it will take you just 20 minutes or so to make your way from Parc Guell to Port Vell. This is a harbour and it is a classic example of how some areas of Barcelona changed immeasurably as a result of the 1992 Olympics.
Formerly derelict and deserted, the port was transformed into the hive of activity which attracts many tourists and residents today. Not only can you gaze at the many yachts and wish you were aboard them, you can also enjoy the huge shopping area and the many bars and restaurants which offer a place to relax.
Heading back away from the water, you should also take a look at the Placa de Catalunya. This is a huge open space which takes the form of a public square. It is also the point where you can join the Rambla. This famous street actually used to be a stream, but it has long since disappeared, only to be replaced with all manner of stalls and attractions for the tourists to explore.
If you wish, you can even walk the length of the Rambla to end up close to Port Vell. It’s a wonderful way to spend a nice sunny afternoon in the city.
A week long break in Barcelona certainly has plenty to enliven the senses. Barcelona flights are readily available from many airports and once you land at Barcelona Airport it doesn’t take long to reach the centre of the city itself.
So if you want a break that can offer a taste of both the past and the present, Barcelona can oblige.
