Striking the Best Last Minute Deal
If it’s around that time of year when your mind starts drifting out of the office and onto dreams of that elusive holiday, the chances are you’ll also be keeping in mind that the recession has made millions of people worldwide struggle to manage their money effectively. Many will have sacrificed their annual holidays in an effort to save extra cash, but the truth is that this is just not necessary if you’re smart about shopping for that well-deserved break.
It’s a well known fact that booking in advance can often secure cheaper flights and hotels for going away. However, we don’t always have the luxury of having enough cash four months before the holiday, nor do we always get to choose when our holidays come up. That’s why it’s important to bear in mind that some great deals can also be secured last minute. If travel agencies and airlines do not sell all of the places on their holiday packages and flights, then the remainder go on sale as last minute purchases. These are often heavily discounted to encourage sales and make a smaller profit rather than a loss.
During the recession, when many people are forced to cancel their holidays or simply not book them at all, last minute deals are becoming more abundant – which is excellent news for the thrifty holidaymaker. However, finding them isn’t always the easiest task, but here are a few tips that can make the search easier for you.
Firstly, try to be as flexible as you can with your dates. Specific deals are only available on certain flights or packages and the company or airline cannot work around you, so you must be prepared to work around them. By being flexible on what days you travel and for how long, your chances of securing a fantastic deal are far higher.
Another way you can increase your chances may seem strange – be open about where you go to. If you have no set destination in mind, then you’re free to browse every offer available as a potential holiday. This way, you can search through many offers to find what suits you – and you’re also being given the chance to select somewhere completely random and discover a whole new experience you’d never have expected to partake in had you only wanted to go to a certain country.
Last minute holidays are a fantastic opportunity to save a bit of cash and could mean you have the experience of a lifetime for a fraction of the cost – a welcome saving in the current economic climate.
